Street Sweeping
PURPOSE:
While it might seem the primary purpose is to keep the roadways and alleys clean and free of leaves and debris, in reality, the real reason for street sweeping is to prevent that material from entering the drainage system, which can (1) cause obstructions and damage to the drainage structures and (2) add pollutants to the stormwater management system.
What you can do to help:
- Avoid overnight parking on streets that are scheduled for sweeping
- Keep yard debris and waste away from the curb on street sweeping days
- Do not rake leaves or other yard debris into the roadways at any time
- Keep street trees pruned to allow enough height to accommodate the street sweeper
